The Housing Authority of Monroe County RESIDENT INITIATIVES COORDINATOR Starting salary $52,925 with generous health benefits, PTO, and 401A plan This individual will function as a resource person, community liaison, and activities coordinator to resident associations and residents in assisting them in the lifestyle adjustment process and achieving their full human and economic potential. Work involves performing liaison work between public and private local community service organizations and the resident associations and residents; providing informational and referral services to the resident associations and residents concerning public and private resources that may respond to their particular interests and needs; and planning, coordinating, and conducting activities for tenants that develop and enhance their skills in human relations and life in general, requiring constant encouragement for resident participation. Employees provide resident associations, and residents, with information concerning the housing authority and services that are available through discussions, speeches, and newsletters. Work also involves conducting spot-checks of the dwellings to determine the state of well-being and self-sufficiency of the residents and following up on referrals when residents refuse services. Work is reviewed by an administrative superior for the application of sound judgment, effectiveness of resident relations services, and conformance to housing authority policies and procedures. Examples of Work Performed: Performs as a resource person, community liaison, and activities coordinator functions within a housing authority in assisting resident associations and residents with achieving their full human potential. Performs as a resource person to the resident association and residents by conducting orientation and discussion sessions, presenting resident concerns to the attention of management, and referring residents with problems or particular needs to internal or external resources who may appropriately respond to the latter. Establishes and maintains close rapport with local community organizations to remain current with programs offered within the community and to interest community resource organizations in participating in and sponsoring resident oriented activities. Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for residents that develop and enhance their skills in human relations and self-sufficiency. Schedules and conducts inspections of the living units to determine adequacy and state of well-being. Produces newsletters for the residents on a scheduled basis in order to keep them informed of scheduled events, resident related news, and available community programs. Prepares and submits resident relations reports to management, along with other government agencies, on the status and progress of the program. Attend meetings as required to present program progress and new assignments. Works at various different offices under the purview of the housing authority. Needs to be able to work occasionally after hours and/or weekends. Performs related work as required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of the current principles and practices of human service resource administration and the nature of community organization. Knowledge of the social and emotional needs of residents in public housing and the experiences that are necessary to further their human relations and individual growth potentials. Knowledge of typical problems that confront residents in public housing/section 8 program and the community resources that are available to respond to such matters. Knowledge of individual and group behavior and methods used in effectively controlling and improving behavior. Ability to plan and organize a resident relations program for a housing authority. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community officials, housing authority management, the residents, and the general public. Ability to work effectively on a one-to-one basis and in group situations. Ability to be understanding of resident needs and compassionate toward their problems. Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, orally and in writing. Solid organizational skills necessary. Experience and Training: One year of experience in public or private human relations or counseling work, and a bachelor’s degree in one of the social sciences or in education; or Any combination of experience or training which provided the applicant with the above listed required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
